In this case a girl of 17 year old died by suicide by jumping from the school building over alleged mistreatment by school authorities. After her death and the violence created by the people, the school was closed and entry to it was restricted. The case was Latha Educational Society Kaniyamoor V/S State of Tamil Nadu & Others [(Mad)488][Case No.WP No.28601 of 2022]. This case was presided by Mr. Justice R Suresh Kumar.
Facts of the Case
- In July 2022, a 17 year died by suicide by jumping from the school building over alleged mistreatment by the school authorities. The investigation was handed to CBCID.
- After her death , the school premise faces large protest. It also faces the violence on the large scale with people vandalising the school campus. As per internal assessment, the estimated loss to be around 25 crores.
- After the school faces violence, they closed the school and entry to it was restricted by the district administration.
The Madras High Court permitted the petitioners to open the 2 schools from class IX-XII on the trial basis for 1 month. The court directed that the District Administration, headed by the District Superintendent of Police force, to visit the school before the date of reopening for the security arrangements. The court also said that the management will be at liberty to seek extra security in case of any threat.the court had also sought reports from the CBCID who says that investigation is almost complete and there is no problem in opening the classes.
