‘A’ Certification for ‘Salaar’: Unveiling the Mature Content

What’s the Movie About

A major part of the general tone of the picture, as stated by the filmmakers, is that “Salaar” takes place in the brutal and lawless fictitious nation of Khansar. According to the teaser, it is known for its dramatic and gory action scenes. The makers of the movie said that in order to communicate the emotion and core of the work to the viewer, graphic and violent action scenes are essential. The argument put up is that the film is not solely about violence, and it is crucial for viewers to consider the film through the lens of the protagonist’s bond with his childhood buddy.  Such dramatic action scenes are necessary for the audience to identify with the protagonist because the story is mostly driven by conflict. These components are essential to the film because they are required to tell the story in a way that is both emotionally compelling and highly heated.

‘A’ Certification

The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) granted the highly anticipated film “Salaar” a ‘A’ certificate two weeks before to its official release, a development that puzzled both the filmmakers and a sizable portion of the public. When asked if producer Vijay Kiragandur is satisfied with an ‘A’ certificate, he told us, “We obviously wanted an ‘U/A’ because we want the family audience to come and watch the film. At the same time, we are now okay with an ‘A’ certificate. The rules have changed for the censor board and when they explained the reason behind it, we came to terms with it.” “It happened with ‘Animal’ as well. We met the censor officers, and they explained to us the new rules,” Vijay added and mentioned that they were suggested a few cuts to get an ‘U/A’ certificate. “They suggested a few cuts to get ‘U/A’, but director Prashanth decided against the cuts because those were the scenes which would add to the character building of a violent man. Those scenes are important.” He emphasised that ‘Salaar’ was not given ‘A’ certificate because of any vulgarity but only because of its intense action sequences. “The action sequences are so intense, so we did not want to disturb the flow. We got an ‘A’ certificate only because of that. There is no vulgarity or anything in the film,” he explained.[1]

The censor board’s decision to award the movie a ‘A’ certificate appears to have been largely influenced by these high-octane action scenes. Although these moments are violent, the directors have made it clear that there are no offensive or filthy scenes in the movie that could offend viewers.

Conclusion

The fact that “Salaar” insists on keeping its violent and bloody action scenes highlights how crucial they are to expressing the feelings and spirit of the film. The directors emphasised that the action scenes’ strong quality alone was the reason for the ‘A’ designation, not any filthy content. The filmmakers maintained that these sequences were essential to character development and that they allowed the spectator to empathise with the protagonist. They also emphasised that the film is not only about violence and that there is a balance between the demands of dramatic action and the larger narrative objectives.
