The Delhi High Court closes the PIL seeking immediate relief measures at Yamuna Flood Relief Camps in view of that affected people shifted back to their homes.

Introduction

In the present order passed by Hon’ble Delhi High Court, the CORUM of the Hon’ble Court observed that the affected people of the Yamuna River flood have been shifted back to their homes and the impact of flood also has been gone so in view of the present scenario the Hon’ble Court closes the present PIL seeking the immediate relief for the people who were affected by the Yamuna River flood.

Facts of the case

The present PIL filed by Dr. Akash Bhatta Charya who is a professor of Azim Premji University, in regarding the Yamuna River flood in the monsoon season this year, the water level crossed danger level of 205.33 and a large number of persons in NCT of Delhi stood displaced. The petitioner submits that around 25,000 people, apart from livestock, were directly or indirectly affected by the floods and prayed for following reliefs.

Direct respondents 1 & 2 to ensure all the essential and quality food supply in relief camps across Delhi. To start a community kitchen at every flood relief camp and also provide all the sanitary items and 3 months free ration including spices and basic essentials and also provide immediate cash assistance of Rs. 50000 for those who lost their belonging and shelter in the flood.

Court’s observation

The Hon’ble court has observed that the impact of the flood went on, and affected people of the flood has been shifted back to their homes and during the flood so many organizations also helped to the flood victims like NGO’s, gurudwaras, and other organizations also participated in relief activities. Including distribution of stationery and clothing items. The Hon’ble High Court also observed that Rs. 10,000/- per family also distributed to 2223 families after verification. In the light of GNCTD’s status report, no further orders are required to be passed in the present PIL and the same stands disposed of accordingly.
