FACT:
SI/SHO Manpreet Singh obtained confidential information that Lakhvir Singh, also known as Landa, who is a resident of Harike, Patti, District Tarn Taran, and is typically located in Canada, along with Satnam Singh, also known as Satta, from Naushera Pannua, District Tarn Tarn, and Gurlal Singh, also known as Lali, a petitioner from Sarhali Kalan village, District Tarn Taran, in collaboration with unidentified individuals, were unlawfully distributing weapons and ammunition, as well as providing financial support to separatist groups. These actions were carried out with the intention of causing turmoil under the pretext of religion. This was allegedly being orchestrated by the Pakistani intelligence agency ISI, aimed at targeting religious and political leaders to disrupt peace and stability in Punjab. All the accused are believed to adhere to the Khalistan ideology. A First Information Report (FIR) was filed, and the petitioner has been apprehended and held in custody since August 23, 2022.
COURT ANALYSIS AND DECISION:
The individual seeking legal action is a youthful student aged 23, who had aspirations to pursue higher education in Canada. Despite successfully gaining admission, he was taken into custody at the airport while departing from India. Prior to this, he completed a culinary program at the Food Craft Institute in Hoshiarpur and gained work experience at the Taj Hotel Resorts and Palaces in Bangalore. Consequently, his entire future and professional journey are in jeopardy as he remains under preventive detention.
