Maharashtra government to not disburse development funds to MLAs till further orders : Bombay High Court

The Bombay High Court passed a order on 30 March, 2023.This was seen in the case of. Ravindra Waikar v. State of Maharashtra & Ors 4223/2023 and the case was presided over by Hon’ble Justice G. S. KULKARNI & R. N. LADDHA. 

FACTS OF THE CASE: 

In this case a petition by Ravindra Waikar, an MLA belonging to the Uddhav Thackeray faction of the Shiv Sena, seeking equal allocation of MLD funds to MLAs without discrimination on the basis of political parties.

ORDER BY COURT:

Waikar alleged that the State had allotted a total of ₹45,102.42 lakh towards the MLD funds overall. However, the list showing amount allocation to MLAs showed that constituencies represented by the ruling party, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Eknath Shinde faction of the Shiv Sena, and the Republican Party were allocated large amounts of funds. Waikar submitted that his constituency itself had a number of slums which are in need of civic amenities. Howver, he and other members of his party were denied funds for their respective constituency. The Court granted time till April 3 to the State to file its affidavit and posted the matter for hearing on April 5.
