High Court prohibited from serving as a post office to gather and share data is upheld by the Madras High Court in the case of S.P. Muthu Raman v. Department of Personnel and Training through a division Bench of Munishwar Nath Bhandari, CJ and D. Bharatha Chakravarthy, J.,

FACTS OF THE CASE

The current case was submitted to request guidance from the respondents regarding the implementation of a recommendation issued by the Central Information Commission, one of which was to use a postal stamp in place of an India Postal Order of Demand Draft on RTI applications.

The petitioner requested that the court conduct a roving and probing inquiry into the actions that the respondents took in response to the CIC’s advice.

JUDGEMENT

The High Court ruled that it is prohibited from serving as a post office to gather and share data.

Bench stated that the decision on what steps should be taken in response to the Central Information Commission’s proposal rests with the relevant authorities.

Accordingly, the petition was denied.
